To the Church of Laodicea!

Revelation 3:14-16 NLT “Write this letter to the angel of the church of Laodicea. This is the message from the one who is the amen-the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s new creation:

I know all the things you do that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.”

Revelation 3:17 NLT “You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are miserable and pour and blind and naked.”

Revelation 3:18-19 NLT “So I advise you to buy gold from me-gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness, and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see. I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.”

Revelation 3:20-21 NLT “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne.”

Revelation 3:22 NLT “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.”

This is the seventh and final letter to the churches of ancient Asia Minor. Laodicea was a wealthy, industrious city in the province of Phrygia in the Lycos Valley.

Again, as in the message to the church of Philadelphia, this was not simply a message of warnings from John but from Jesus himself! He identifies himself as The amen, The true and faithful witness, The ruler of God’s new creation. Once again, he emphasizes his sovereignty and power.

Unlike the prior six churches we’ve read about, this letter begins with nothing commendable about it! Jesus begins this letter immediately with condemnation! He is giving the church and us a severe warning!

The church had become apathetic (showing or feeling no interest, enthusiasm, or concern), just going through the motions.

You know, giving the proper lip service and attendance! Playing and looking the part of a Christian, yet all the while, dust thickens on your Bible, and your prayer life is stagnant. The needy are someone else’s problem. You tithe, you show up, you have pretty much all you need…yep, you’re good! Right?

The church of Laodicea was wealthy, and their needs were met! But were they? The wealth they had accumulated was earthly, while their spiritual bank account was empty!

There was no real relationship with God! They were empty vessels simply going through the motions…neither hot nor cold! Spit out of the Lord’s mouth as though drinking bitter water!

I personally would hate to think I had become so placid within my walk with the Lord that I had become a bitter taste in his mouth!

Something to think about! Where is your walk? How is your prayer life? Do you smile and get a quickening when you think about or spend time with our Lord, or is he just a 911 call when life is falling apart?

What we invest in will undoubtedly be what we receive. How full or empty is your heavenly bank account? I’m shooting for the gold and clothing of fine white linen! How about you?

Thank you for spending a bit of time with me in Sunshine. Be blessed, and be a blessing! ❤️☀️🥰
