Tiny Green Buds…

Mother nature has been in a mood lately. We wake up to a frozen winter wonderland with no electricity one morning only for a few days later the sun to be shining and the hint of spring peeking out!

Our poor foliage doesn’t know what to do. However, these springtime days have many of us ready to be outside again, to enjoy the fresh air and the sunshine on our faces.

When I think of springtime and tiny green buds that will blossom into beautiful flowers, I think of Numbers chapter 17; to me, this is one of the most incredible visuals and displays of God in the Bible. Sure the parting of the Red Sea is magnificent. Still, I love this simple, quiet picture that speaks so loudly.

The scene takes place in the desert; Jews are once again grumbling, as we know Jews love to do (I’m a Jew, so that I can say 😉). Some of the tribal leaders are questioning why Moses and his brother Aaron have all the authority!

So upon God’s direction, Moses has each leader of their ancestral tribe bring him a staff, then God instructed Moses to write each leader’s name upon their individual staff.

Numbers 17:3-5 NIV “On the staff of Levi write Aarons name, for there must be one staff for the head of each ancestral tribe. Place them in the Tent of Meeting in front of the Testimony, where I meet with you. The staff belonging to the man I choose will sprout, and I will rid myself of this constant grumbling against you by the Israelites.”

Numbers 17:8-9 NIV “The next day Moses entered the Tent of the Testimony and saw that Aaron’s staff, which represented the house of Levi, had not only sprouted but had budded, blossomed and produced almonds. Then Moses brought out all the staffs from the Lord’s presence to all the Israelites.”

I love this Scripture; God is so grand. He shows us his love and presence in so many ways; from the most extravagant displays to the simplest quiet moments, He is there! He is with us!

So possibly the next time you see little buds on a tree limb, knowing a beautiful flower will follow, you might be reminded of God’s glorious display on Aarons staff.

I hope you were blessed by one of the great stories held within the pages of the Bible. I pray for you a blessed day and thank you for joining me. 🥰
