Families come in as many a variety as colors on a color wheel. We have: short families, tall families, skinny families and plump families. Families who hunt, hike, fish, camp, ski, read, watch football, ride motorcycles, atv’s or horses. Families who fight, love, annoy and support. Families who we are born into and families we create. There are blood families, adopted families, foster families and friends who become family.
I was blessed to grow up in a small community in the seventies, where life was simple. You knew most everyone and most everyone knew you or at the very least who you belonged to. It was a small Eastern Oregon town where everyone felt like family and many were.
I had a childhood girlfriend who was as much a sister to me as my little brother was, if I wasn’t at her house, she was at mine. Your parents had friends and you became friends with their family. I had just such a friend and second mom because of a parental friendship. He and I were the same age, went clear through school together and into adulthood as brother and sister of heart…not having a close relationship with my mom…his mom was the one I would go talk to through the rough teenage years. They became MY family…
I am a mother, I have birthed three children and have quite a few children of my heart. I understand, that just because we share blood doesn’t necessarily mean we share love and our worlds. I call myself a mother to the motherless, not that my children of heart don’t have mothers maybe they just don’t share much, have a mom who understands them or is accepting of the adult their child has grown to become.
We have: work families, social club families, therapy families, in-law families, neighborhood families and church families.
We have: American families, Italian families, French families, Spanish families, Hungarian families, Greek families, Asian families, Eastern Indian and American Indian families. I just listed a few as an example but I see the Jew jumping up and down waving his arms…Hey you forgot us!!! No I didn’t!!!
From the beginning of time we have had the Jewish family. The Chosen People of God. Descendants sharing the same bloodline as our Lord Jesus Christ. Makes us sound special doesn’t it? Do those of us with Jewish blood feel a little special? Yes! Are we supposed to? No!
Ephesians 3:6 NLT “And this is God’s plan: Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equally in the riches inherited by Gods children. Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus.”
So whether you’re Gentile or Jew, young or old, rich or poor, mighty or meek, big or little, loud or quiet, bright or dull, colorful or drab, funny or serious, lost or found, scared or confident; there is a place for you in Gods family. He’s patiently waiting for you…Come join us, I think you’ll like it here. Thank you for joining me and being a part of sunshine’s family. Go out and make it a blessed day. 🥰
