We all need friends. Friends come in all shapes, sizes, and colors; there are the funny ones, the serious ones, the ones you can get into trouble with, the shoulder to cry on friends, the vacation friends, the golf friend, the sewing friend, the book sharing friend, the list goes on forever friends.
Our closest friend may be our spouse, partner, children, parent, co-worker, or neighbor. We may have friends we talk to once a year, but what fun those catch-up times are. We might still be blessed to keep in touch with the friends we grew up with—those from back home who share our childhood memories or the new friends we’ve made in the different locations of our lives.
Proverbs 27:17 ESV: “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”
Proverbs 27:9 ESV: “Oil and perfume make the heart glad, and the sweetness of a friend comes from earnest counsel.”
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 ESV: “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fail, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!”
We all can have a friend who will never leave us, is always there to pick us up when we fall, always has an open ear when we need to talk, and a shoulder when we need to cry. That Friend is Jesus!
Proverbs 18:24 ESV: “A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Guess who that friend is? Yep, it’s Jesus!
John 15:15 ESV: “No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”
James 2:23 ESV: “And the scripture was fulfilled that says, ‘Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness-and he was called a friend of God.”
Deuteronomy 31:6 ESV: “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes before you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
Dear Lord Jesus,
I ask you to come into my heart; be my Lord, Savior, and Best Friend. I believe you died for my sins. I am a sinner, but in you, I am set free. And in your name, I am blessed with eternity in heaven alongside you. Please write my name under yours in The Book of Life. I long to walk with you, talk with you, and, most of all, hear your counsel. In your name, I pray. Amen! 😌❤️
