I love the mornings when the birds sing as they usher in and welcome the dawn of a new day.
Their bright, cheerful chorus always brings a smile. This time of year, it’s entertaining to watch the birds of all sizes and colors scurrying around, picking up pieces of this or that, making stops at the bird feeder, or splashing in the water feature as they bathe. I spent a lovely few moments yesterday visiting with Mrs. Robin as she was shopping around my yard for her home or family.
I believe that the birds make God smile as well. There are a variety of scriptures regarding birds that show his love and care for his small-winged creatures!
Matthew 6:26 ESV: “Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
Psalm 104:12. NLT: “The birds nest beside the streams and sing among the branches of the trees.”
Psalm 50:11 ESV: “I know all the birds of the hills, and all that moves in the fields are mine.”
Isaiah 40:31 ESV: “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
Matthew 3:16 ESV: “And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him.”
Luke 12:6 ESV: “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God.”
Isaiah 31:5: “Like birds hovering, so the Lord of hosts will protect Jerusalem; he will protect and deliver it; he will spare and rescue it.”
I love that within these scriptures, the Lord tells us of his compassion for his creations, whether beasts of the field or birds in the air. He is likening his love, provisions, and protection of his birds to us! Scripture expresses in the gospels how much more valuable we are to God.
I believe this to be a spiritual reminder that God sees all and loves us, and if he knows when a sparrow falls or is sold, he certainly knows what is going on with us!
On that, we can rest. On that, we can be sure!
