Your Calling

The Bible often speaks of our calling in the Lord, our mission, our discipleship in him, and his path for us!

This assignment is not clear and can frankly feel like an enigma! I have spent countless years asking the Lord what my mission was and what his plans for me were, question after question.

As a single mom, I heard, ‘Raise your children in me.’ The Lord instilled in me a deep resonance that our children learn and grow more from our examples rather than our words. Did I always get it right? No! Did I always give them my all? Yes!

Did my children grow up strong within the security of my love? Yes! Did they go on to make their own mistakes? Yes! After trials and errors in finding their paths, did they lead back to God? Yes!

Proverbs 22:6 ESV: “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Back to our calling! Not all will be preachers, speakers, book authors, gospel singers, documentary writers, or noted theologians.

We may be no one extraordinary, everyday variety, the run-of-the-mill person who lives down the street or next door.

But, are you?

You are a child of God, so already you are unique and set apart! From the outside, we look like everyone else, but on the inside, that’s a different story.

1 Timothy 4:12 ESV: ‘Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”

There’s our calling! We are called to set the example!

It’s not venting our anger and frustration on the person behind the counter or the other end of the phone. It’s not being bold and pushy, loudly demanding our way! It’s not being selfish, moody, and self-centered. It’s not raising ourselves in our status.

It’s the godly examples we show the critical world. It’s showing love and compassion rather than judgment. It’s standing on our faith in the Lord when, to the naked eye, our world is crashing around us. It’s clean living!

Galatians 5:22 NLT: “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.”

The fruit of the Spirit is truly our calling to daily work toward these qualities not only within ourselves but in our lives, which then graciously spill onto others!

We, as Christians, are called to share the love and gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ! The easiest and best way is by the testimonies we share and the examples we set! ☺️
