“Round like a circle, in a spiral, like a wheel.
Never-ending or beginning, on an ever-spinning reel.
As the images unwind, like the circles that you find, In the Windmills of your mind.”
Dusty Springfield ~ April 1969 Atlantic Record Corp.
Does the chorus to this song resemble your mind? I know it often resembles mine. I have a mind whose repeat button is constantly getting stuck. I fast forward only to find I’m back on the never-ending circle of unwanted thoughts.
Taking Captive Every Thought! Teaching ourselves to rule our thoughts and thinking patterns rather than them ruling us! Another trip to God’s Gym!
2 Corinthians 10:5 ESV: “We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.”
Philippians 4:8 ESV: “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Romans 12:2 ESV: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Philippians 4:6 ESV: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
Philippians 4:7 ESV: “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Isaiah 25:3 ESV: “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”
I speak often about the battlefield of our minds and the constant fight to keep our thoughts free from worry, stress, angst, anger, fear…
It’s flexing God’s muscle! Taking captive our unwanted, non-desirable thoughts! Refusing to give in to them and tossing out the debris that’s cluttering our minds and thinking. Releasing them up to God and asking the Holy Spirit for a good dose of Him!
The Fruit of the Holy Spirit are Love, Joy, Peace, Forbearance, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control. When negativity, hurt, pain, embarrassment, heartache, and life start to become windmills in your mind; stop and pray, asking the Lord to help you change the direction of the wind! 😌
