To the Church of Pergamum!

Revelation 2:12-14 NLT “Write this letter to the angel of the church of Pergamum. This is a message from the one with the sharp two edged sword:

I know that you live in the city where Satan has his throne, yet you have remained loyal to me. You refused to deny me even when Antipas, my faithful witness was martyred among you there in Satans city.

But I have a few complaints against you. You tolerate some among you whose teaching is like that of Balaam, who showed Balak how to trip up the people of Israel.”

Revelation 2:16-17 NLT “Repent of your sin, or I will come to you suddenly and fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give some manna that has been hidden away in heaven. And I will give to each one a white stone, and on that stone will be engraved a new name that no one understands except the one who receives it.”

Pergamum, is the third of the seven churches of Asia Minor to receive one of Johns specific messages. As we read Johns messages to the churches we need to recognize these same principles are still needed in the churches today and in us as well.

Pergamum or Pergamos was a beautiful art-filled city. It was built along two tributaries of the Caicus River.

Pergamum was a center for the worship of Dionysus, Zeus and other pagan Gods. Jesus affirms that Satan has his throne where you live.

He recognizes and makes note to the church of Pergamum that even when one of their own was put to death for his Christian stance and belief, they stood solid and unified.

However, Jesus took note of their sin! They held fast to the teachings of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin by eating foods sacrificed to idols (religious compromise) and by committing sexual immorality (moral compromise).

This was and is a wake up call!

Repent of any religious or moral compromise. Strive each day to be a good example not one of Balaam who by actions and words led others astray.

Jesus promises the church of Pergamum and to you and I; if we remain faithful and overcome the ways of the world, we too shall be victorious and will reign with Jesus in heaven for eternity!

I can’t wait, and I hope to see you there! In the meantime, thank you for being here! Have a blessed day! ❤️☀️🥰
