Rain…

I live in the Pacific Northwest, and one thing we know about here is rain!

For the most part, I love the rain. It makes me feel cozy. I find myself lighting candles, baking something, or putting together a collection of fragrant yummies that then simmer on the stove.

So as I sit and listen to the droplets falling from the sky this morning; I thought it would be fun to check out some scriptures on the subject…

Isaiah 55:10 ESV “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the shower and bread to the eater.”

Jeremiah 14:22 ESV “Are there any among the false gods of the nations that can bring rain? Or can the heavens give showers? Are you not he, O’ Lord God? We set our hope on you, for you do all these things.”

Job 5:10 ESV “He gives rain on the earth and sends waters on the fields.”

Deuteronomy 28:12 ESV “The Lord will open to you his good treasury, the heavens, to give rain to your land in it’s season and to bless the works of your hands. And you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.”

Hosea 10:12 ESV “Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and rain righteousness upon you.”

Deuteronomy 32:2 ESV “May my teaching drop as the rain, my speech distill as the dew, like gentle rain upon the tender grass, and like showers upon the herb.”

And I love, love, love this one…

2 Samuel 23:4 ESV “He dawns on them like the morning light, like the sun shining forth on a cloudless morning, like rain that makes grass to sprout from the earth.”

Thank you, Lord, for the rains that have been falling, as we know our earth seriously needs this healthy drink of water and the cleansing that always follows.

Help us, Lord, to recognize that when the rain falls on our personal lives, that growth and cleansing too, will follow. Help us to trust! Help us to follow!
