You’ve heard the adage, “don’t be a doubting Thomas!” “Oh, you are such a doubting Thomas!” Have you ever wondered where that comment derived?
Oxford Language defines: A person who is skeptical and refuses to believe something without proof.
Did you know there was in actuality a real doubting Thomas?
John 20:24-29 ESV “Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, ‘we have seen the Lord.’ But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.” Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ Then he said to Thomas, “put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe’. Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God”
John 20:29 ESV “Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” ‘Those’ are you and I …
Thomas became famous for needing proof! He has a stigma attached to his name because he questioned, asked for proof, but what if he was behaving in a manner we all need to adopt.
In Matthew 24:5 NIV Jesus states, “For many will come in my name, claiming I am the Messiah, and will deceive many.”
Matthew 24:11 ESV “And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.”
Matthew 7:15 ESV “Beware of false prophets, who come in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.”
2 John 1:7 ESV “For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist.”
I truly believe the time has arrived where the false teachings have begun. The propaganda and agendas have started; watch TV commercials, for example. We need to be aware of our surroundings, what’s being taught in our schools and be paying attention to world events. The time to know Gods word and heed his warnings are now!
Maybe we should all follow Thomases example and make sure that what we are being told and taught is truly Jesus!
Be a blessing today and I pray for you a day of blessings! Thank you for joining me. 🥰
