Psalm 23 … The Lord The Shepherd

A psalm of David

The Lord is my Shepherd; I have everything I need. Jesus Christ is our daily bread and support in every season of our lives.

He lets me rest in green pastures. He leads me to calm water. In biblical days the shepherd let his sheep rest and graze in lush green grass. Sheep are led, they will not drink from rushing water, instead they instinctively know where to seek good, clean calm water in which to drink. The Bible is an excellent source of calm, clean water in which to quench an unquenchable thirst.

He gives me new strength. He leads me on paths that are right for the good of his name. He is with us as we struggle, and if we wander, as sheep tend to do, he’s always watching over us to gently guide us back to the path he has for each of us individually.

Even if I walk through a very dark valley, I will not be afraid because you are with me. Your rod and shepherds staff comfort me. A dark valley could be anything fearful you are facing; cancer, divorce, bankruptcy, unemployment possibly foreclosure, You are not alone!!! The rod, was a short, thick heavy stick resembling today’s baton-the staff a long pole with a crook at the end. These were weapons to protect the sheep from predators. The Lord is our Shepherd and Protector.

You prepare a meal for me in front of my enemies. You pour oil of blessing on my head; you fill my cup to overflowing. Within King David’s life the Lord showed David’s enemies many times his hand upon David. He showered him with many victorious meals. The oil could be speaking of a healing balm the shepherds would apply to wounds on their sheep, but he could also be speaking of the anointing that the Lord placed on him? The Lord is our mighty healer and within him we are all anointed to go out and do his works. Our Lord is a generous God to those who serve and trust him. David lived a bountiful life; He lived a life serving God!

Surely your goodness and love will be with me all my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever. (New Century Version) To this, I say Thank you and Amen!

I hope you are blessed today and thank you for joining me. 🥰
