Revelation 3:20 NCV “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and eat with you, and you will eat with me.”
I’ve used this scripture about Jesus knocking on the door of your heart and accepting him as your Lord and Savior. I will one day do a study on the depth of the invitation to share a meal, but today, the research took me to the church of Laodicea.
In the book of Revelation (the last book in the Bible ), Jesus addresses the seven churches, their strengths and weaknesses, their good points and bad. Laodicea is the only church to receive no positive points, only criticism.
What are the faults within this church that Jesus so strongly scorns? The church was lukewarm, smug, and self-satisfied. It was a very wealthy church and boasted of needing nothing. Read the verses below to see how Jesus felt.
Revelation 3:15-17 NCV “I know what you do, that you are not hot or cold. I wish that you were hot or cold! But because you are lukewarm-neither hot, nor cold-I am ready to spit you out of my mouth. You say, ‘I am rich, and I have become wealthy and do not need anything.’ But you do not know that you are really miserable, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.”
Jesus stood outside the church door, knocking, hoping the door would open and allow him back in! Could Jesus be talking to you today? Is he standing outside your door knocking? If he is, I highly suggest you open it and invite him in! He’s the best guest you will ever have.
Lord Jesus, I pray that you will keep me from becoming a church of Laodicea, lax, inattentive, forgetting you are my strength and well-being. So comfortable in my world and nest that I fail to see others who aren’t. If you are standing at a door knocking, I pray for their ears and spirit to be open to your calling and life of love. To say, ‘Lord Jesus, I need you. Please, come into my heart and share a meal with me today and every day. I thank you for those hearts, you are reaching for and their receiving you and your love. Thank you for your love, protection, and provision daily in my life and the lives of those I love. In your glorious name, I pray. Amen
I hope these words have given you some food for thought. May your day be blessed and as always, Thank you for joining me. 🥰
